Lisa Cahill | Hearts | Glass | A Very Merry Christmas
Title | Pocket Hearts
Technique | Technique: Kilnformed glass
Each Murrini Heart combines hotshop and kiln-forming techniques, beginning with individually made murrini glass slices to create intricate layered patterns, which are then kiln-formed into heart shapes, cut and polished by hand.
A little statement about the art from Lisa | These small glass hearts are made to be held, treasured and shared. Each heart is individually cut and kiln-fired in my Canberra studio and then polished by hand, making every piece unique.
The tactile pocket hearts invite touch, offering a quiet moment of comfort and connection wherever life takes you, a little reminder of the people and things we hold close.
The hanging hearts ornaments bring this same sentiment into the home, catching the light and adding a little sparkle to the Christmas tree. Whether carried in a pocket or hung as a treasured ornament, each heart is a small expression of love, connection and the joy of giving something handmade.

This body work was inspired by a recent tour of Central Australia, with a particular focus on the dramatic colours and light experienced in this unique environment. I was captivated by the graphic lines defining the landscape as strong shadows are cast and the red earth and rock is illuminated, particularly during sunrise and sunset.
