A little bit more about the designs/patterns by Gwen |
With nature as my inspiration, these cushion designs are part of a collection which captures the sculptural shapes and forms of plants which hold positive memories and associations. Whether given to me as a gift or grown in my own garden, each plant has a special significance and feeling, which I express through the language of colour, pattern and form.
London Garden ~ Spring
This design is inspired by my time living in London and the joy and reward of springtime, seeing the beautiful plants in my garden emerge after long, cold and dark winters. It captures the contrasting shapes and forms of sweetly fragrant Lily of the Valley plants, the chequered pattern of the Fritillaria flower and the grand, purple Allium. Fabric: Cotton / Linen
London Garden ~ Moonlight
Peaceful, relaxing evenings enjoyed in my garden during the warmer months while living in London, watching plants catch the glow of moonlight, inspired the colourway of this design. It captures the contrasting shapes and forms of sweetly fragrant Lily of the Valley plants, the chequered pattern of the Fritillaria flower and the grand, purple Allium. Fabric: Cotton / Linen
Cyclamen ~ Berry
Featuring the beautiful heart-shaped leaves and upswept petals of the Cyclamen plant, this design came about from a joyful memory, receiving a generous, surprise box of them one autumn. Originating from the Mediterranean, wild Cyclamen are hardy and bloom throughout winter in woodlands and rocky, shaded areas, before reaching dormancy during hot, dry summers. Fabric: Linen
Citrus Japonica ~ Harvest
The Citrus Japonica (or Cumquat) plant was one of the first plants I grew after moving to Canberra. It quickly became one of my favourites for its sweetly fragrant flowers and brightly coloured orange fruit - these adorn the lush, green foliage during the warmer months. I discovered the fruit can be used for making jam and as a garnish for a refreshing summer cocktail! Fabric: Cotton / Linen
Jonquils ~ Joy
This design came about to express the joyful essence of spring – its warmer and longer days, hope, clarity, new life emerging and the sweet perfume of blossom wafting on the breeze. Jonquils are often one of the first flowers to emerge, a sign of the light and warmth to come. I adore the flowers’ sculptural shapes and their yellow cup-like centres. Fabric: Cotton / Linen
