Artist Statement
I believe that diversity in urban places is intriguing, important and I encourage exploration and closer observation of our surroundings.
The year of 2020 has been challenging and insightful for many of us. Mirroring this I have limited myself to explore 100km from my home to varied urban and rural places. Leaving home without much of a plan and finding myself in architecturally diverse streets is what I consider as my exploration.
The mechanical sound of a prism lifting, and a leaf shutter firing is the reward, the tactility of older cameras is mesmerising. Shooting with colour film is imperative for my work, as the colours are what initially draws me into the scene. From searching for nostalgia with close study of light on busy streets through to the inevitable failure for connection in urban spaces. I am interested in how and where people live and like exploring the idea through observation.
