DECK THE SMALLS | 4 November - 21 December 2025
I love this time of year! I’ve been receiving new artworks and unwrapping them is like Christmas Day. This year we continue our exhibition theme of ‘Deck the Smalls’ (think Deck the Halls ;) There is a range of affordable artworks and wearable art and I’ll be rolling these cute videos out over the coming weeks on social media. As always, I only have a limited number of artworks. I recommend get in quick - even I might have too!
Thanks to our wonderful artists who have created works ranging from woven framed art, new ceramic brooches, bird and animal prints, floral cards, original drawings/mixed media, paintings, carved wall works and engravings. They are all perfect to gift to loved ones or even yourself.
Awards & Residencies | Finalists & Winners | Congratulations
It’s been wonderful to see GOST stable artists apply for residencies, grants and awards/prizes. I was keen to do a shoutout and celebrate our artists who work hard on their submissions and recognised by panels that their practice is valued and supported as part of Australia’s vibrant economy. A few (of many who I wish I could list but that would make it a very long list):
Nic Mason selected for 2025 TATIARA Art Prize (open till 8 Nov)
Alicia Cox Mayor’s Choice Award in the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize 2025 (opens till 16 Nov), Alicia was one of our EASS awardees in 2023.
Jess Hall a finalist in the MAKE Award, Australian Design Centre, Sydney (open till 19 Nov)
Al Munro and Lynne Flemons CAPO | Capital Arts Patron Organisation Awardees (Auction till 30 Nov)
Isobel Rayson awarded the Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award 2025 and Early Career Artist Award Winner (open till 25 January 2026)
Kylie Walsh awarded an artsACT grant to go towards an Artist in Residence with Watershed Studios in Galway, Ireland
A new approach for our gallery in 2026
The Gallery of Small Things (affectionally known as GOST) will be changing its approach to showcasing art in 2026. This will be your last chance to buy works from GOST by artists who have been with me
since I opened in 2017.
A few artists will remain during the transition period. Next year’s new exhibition program will ensure GOST’s continuing viability and provide visitors access to new artists from and outside of Canberra.
I hope to announce the 2026 Exhibitions Program soon. Think solo, duo and group exhibitions for set dates.
This means in 2026 the gallery will no longer be opened every week Thursdays to Sundays.
I’m incredibly grateful to my artists, their ongoing support, creating artworks which have gone to forever homes and making GOST the success that it is. To go from 11 artists to nearly 50 has been an incredible achievement. By staying small, I’ve been able to support their practice, find external opportunities where possible, open shows and promote our space in major media outlets. Likewise, their presence and commitment to the arts has contributed to our successful relationship. Most importantly, I have gained new friendships which I know will continue for a long time to come.
Enjoy the journey of photos below from Sept 2017 to now.
Thanks, Anne xx
