Australian Design Centre | October events | Sydney
I am a big fan of the Australian Design Centre (ADC). It’s an independent organisation based in Sydney and has supported many makers and designers since it began in 1964. While GOST has just celebrated its 8th birthday, this milestone of ADC leaves me in awe!
If you happen to be in Sydney this month, a range of wonderful events are happening as part of ADC’s Sydney Craft Week festival from 10-19 October, now in its ninth year.
As part of this, the MAKE Award exhibition runs from 10 October to 19 November in Sydney, then heads to JamFactory in Adelaide from 5 December 2025 to 12 April 2026. This is a major craft and design innovation award initiated by ADC, with a $35,000 first prize.
Several ACT artists and designers are finalists including Sharon Peoples, Jennifer Robertson and Alice van Meurs, while Lynda Draper’s work emerged from her residency at the Canberra Glassworks. Lynda and Alice’s works are pictured above, we wish all these finalists the best.
Click here on MAKE Award and Sydney Craft Week (10-19 Oct) for all the info.
Special mention from GOST | I also extend my best to Melbourne finalist Jess Hall who has been in our stable since 2023.
London | museums, gardens + sculptures
To end our big trip to Spain and Portugal (6 weeks of travel), we chose to visit London again to transition coming home. I found an Airbnb apartment on the other side of the Thames to give us a chance to explore a new neighborhood. We stayed in Hammersmith and Fulham with a short walk to the train station. The local area had a pub, cafe and cheese shop we went to regularly.
I have written a travel blog on London which can be read here. I tell you places I’ve revisited, new ones that take you behind the scenes of what goes on behind the Victoria & Albert museum’s storage and restoration of artworks, checking out rowers on the river as well as an amazing bee hive sculpture in a well known garden and the best Indian mean we’ve ever had in the world! That’s a big recommendation ;)
Below are a few photos to enjoy what London has to offer for your next travel trip.
