This series of screenprints celebrates some of Australia’s most endangered and elusive birds, among them the Regent Honeyeater, Night Parrot, Black-throated Finch, and Orange-bellied Parrot. Each of these species stands as a fragile emblem of beauty, survival, and loss in the face of habitat destruction, invasive species, and climate change.

I chose to omit any background, allowing each bird to exist in a suspended state, allowing for a quiet reflection of the vanishing landscapes they once called home. This absence invites the viewer’s gaze to linger on the pure form and colour of the bird itself: the curve of a wing, the brilliance of a plume, the delicate balance of its shape.

Every bird commands attention in its own distinct way, through vivid hues, unique silhouettes, or the quiet power of its presence. By simplifying their forms and embracing bright, inviting colours, I hope to draw the viewer closer, sparking curiosity and encouraging a deeper awareness of these extraordinary creatures and their uncertain future.
