EASS exhibition | GOST physically reopens 5 Oct 2023 | Edinburgh + Bath

cox | jeffs | zalakos | EASS 2023 opens to the public 11am, Friday 13 October

Ceramicist Alicia Cox, Painter Janet Jeffs and Gold + Silversmith Jonathon Zalakos are our Emerging Support Art Scheme (EASS) awardees and will showcase new works in just under 2 weeks time! I can’t believe the time has flown since they were selected at the ANU School of Art + Design Patron’s day back in December 2022.

Alicia, Janet and Jonathon have been working hard to create new works designed for our space. We have met regularly to discuss the concepts, work in progress and imagined curation in the gallery. It’s important artists are mentored through the gallery process and it’s not just about hanging / displaying works. It’s been dedicated discussions and collaborating with each other to pull together a cohesive exhibition.

I’ve really enjoyed our meetings and watching their ideas transform into artworks that our visitors can view and add to their art collection (or start one!). I’m looking forward to the installation next week and opening the doors (in person and online) at 11am, Friday 13 October. Keep an eye on our exhibitions page which will have the catalogue button added on the day.

GOST reopens 11am, Thursday 5 October!

Yeah! We are opening our physical doors this Thursday 5 October at 11am. I may be a little jet lagged so forgive me if I am rambling or just excited to be back in my favourite space. I missed the gallery but had wonderful adventures visiting other galleries and museums in Europe. I’ve written a little story below about Edinburgh and Bath, UK which were our last stops of a big 3 and 1/2 month trip. I’ve also posted in Stories our trip to Brussels which you can read here. London will be forthcoming.

The gallery will be opened Thursday to Sunday, 11am to 4pm this week. Then as at Friday 13 October it will be 7 days a week till 29 October. Then it will go back to our normal trading days of Thursdays to Sundays. Keep an eye out for our November news as we announce our Christmas show and special trading hours (we may have a late night for those that need to shop after 4pm).

Edinburgh and Bath Stories | A holiday of a lifetime

I can’t believe we are back home! On our last morning in Bath, UK we snuck in one more visit to a gallery only because I saw a poster promoting a major exhibition of Lucie Rie’s ceramics works. She is one of my most important muses and to see her work in person was fitting to end a fabulous holiday and dream big about creating more of my own works this year. So, here’s a few tips … enjoy!

Edinburgh | such a different city to London. We loved being here too and even with the rains, gusty winds and grey clouds we managed to see a few sights. Our last day was the sunniest which meant we could get in one more outdoor activity. There will be a separate story coming soon on where to stay, what to do and so much more for London and Edinburgh. I’m madly catching up. But if you want to read about Brussels - here she is!

My fave National Galleries of Scotland (NGS) was the Portrait Gallery - the modern section was thoughtfully curated. I didn’t mind Modern - only a few artworks stood out. As for National - an interesting collection in a run down building…the shop was a visitor’s dream…lots of gifts to buy.

The Holbourne Museum | a gem of a find in Bath. This museummay be small but it sure packs a punch when it comes to all things collected great and small! There was a ‘small wonders’ wing. I just about squealed with excitement finding a like minded gallery that agrees ‘Small is beautiful’.

Roman baths | I visited this 33 years ago and vaguely remembered it. The best part was that technology now had head sets for you to be guided through each part of the baths and fully immerse (pardon the pun!) in it’s glorious healing / medicine past from 2000 years of history.

Food | In Bath, we had Cornish pastries and Blueberry and lemon tarts from The Cornish Bakery. For our 15th Wedding Anniversary (and GOST’s 6th birthday) we had a very nice French meal at Chez Dominique. In Edinburgh, we had a fabulous meal at the Educated Flea. We drank lots of scotch, gin and beers! Thankfully we walked so much that we could enjoy sampling Scottish foods from restaurants and this very fancy smancy deli.

I hope you enjoyed this little story. We’ve been very lucky to travel for work & leisure for 3 and 1/s months. Thanks to everyone who has sent me messages, emails and followed my adventures. I can’t wait to hear about your travel stories too!

Anne xx
