Feature Artist | Christine Appleby

We are pleased to welcome Christine Appleby to GOST. I’ve know Christine for a few years now and feel very lucky we’ve become good friends who love all things art. Christine was our very first Emerging Artist Support Scheme recipient when she graduated from the ANU School of Art in 2017. She made our theme ‘small in fall’ positively bloom creating an Autumn wonderland in our tiny gallery in 2018. She has since grown as a steady and organised artist featuring in several shows since showing at GOST. Christine is the consummate practicing artist who takes her professional practice seriously and with unbound enthusiasm. She’s the one to watch!

Success at GRAG!

In my first one day workshop held at Goulburn Regional Art Gallery I’m pleased to say it was a success.
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the participants as a group and individually. The feedback has been lovely and here are a few comments:

Anne Master’s workshop exceeded my expectations in content and the manner in which the workshop was conducted. Anne did not just finish at the close of the workshop, she asked participants to forward their updated information for CV, artist’s statement and also bios so she can check if they are spot on and ready for submission to galleries.

If you are an Arts Organisation or in an Artist’s Cooperative who would like personalised group 1-3 day workshops in 2021 please contact Anne.

We wanted to end 2020 on a positive note

We are very conscious it’s been a hard year for many people. Some have lost loved ones, their family business, a job or simply struggled with the pandemic. We are incredibly grateful for the support from our loyal + new customers - whether they shopped in person or online. Also, to our collaborators who went ahead with exhibitions with GOST this year. Only one exhibition was postponed to 2021 and we look forward to that coming to fruition.

We had our first critical review in The Canberra Times and to top it off appeared twice in The Sydney Morning Herald in The Good Weekend and Traveller. Participants from around Australia braved the new world of Zoom to attend online workshops held @ GOST and meet like minded artists.

In 2020, my goal was to make sure my artists received not only emotional support but also find new ways to increase their incomes. The loss of streams of incomes that artists rely on suddenly disappeared overnight. I achieved this through a new monthly feature of new artists that joined GOST. This meant a spike in online visitors to our online shop which meant our current artists benefited from this initiative.

I must say a big thanks to those that bought online as buying artwork without seeing it can be a little nerve-wracking. Well, I think that’s a wrap for now. I look forward to seeing more artworks go to new homes / spaces in the coming weeks. Stay safe everyone, Anne xx

Do you have a spare 5 minutes? We’d love a review. Thanks!
