Gallery of Small Things (GOST) is hosting its 5th show for 2026 with new artworks from selected artists who have responded to a very special theme - Homage to the Bird.

Anne Masters, Director of GOST found an art book by Greg Oakley in Moss Vale and knew she had to own it.

It’s rare to pick up a book on birds where the imagery of them loom larger than life. I felt compelled to go through the pages and be swept away with seeing birds I knew and those I didn’t.

After reading the forward written by Dr Penny Olsen, Anne bought another book as she didn’t know about John and Elizabeth Gould.

I think (from my generation at High School) we all knew Joseph Banks, the Botanist who came out with Captain Cook in 1778 to Australia. But who knew English Ornithologist John Gould and his wife Elizabeth played a crucial role in identifying, drawing and recording birdlife in Australia back in 1838?

Anne invited 8 artists to respond to the title of Greg’s book consisting of “ … 240 pages, 130 plates of birds from Australia and around the world … “.

I literally aimed for the stars. They are Australia’s best fine artists, photographers, painters, ceramicists, jewellers and paper / printmakers. I felt their intimate works would be ideal in the smallest and much loved gallery space in Canberra.

The show is open physically to the public 11am, 26 September. It runs seven days a week between 11am and 4pm. The show concludes continues 4pm, Sunday 18 October 2026. Anne also caters for those that need a quiet space, low light and sensory awareness. Please contact her to book a time outside of exhibition hours (ie. before 11am or after 4pm).
