Feature Artist | Country Style magazine | Little Things Art Prize

Feature artist | Olivia Deroche

We are pleased to introduce Olivia Deroche who has been paitently waiting in the wings to join GOST. I first met Olivia in her sweet, independent bookshop, Wax Lyrical, located in the picturesque town of Berry, New South Wales. For those oversea, its like going to the seaside and exploring quaint shops, sandy beaches, feasting on local produce at many cafes/restaurants and never wanting to leave!

My husband Adam and I got chatting with Olivia about all things books, her kidnappable figurine Tintin and spying her drawings which she quietly shared with us. She was preparing for her first local solo show and shy in showing me her work given she just found out I owned a gallery.

I left her my details and said let's keep in touch and concentrate on your show. I didn't want her to be overwhelmed as we had arrived mid-pandemic in 2020.

We kept in touch and worked out mid-2022 would be ideal as she needs substantial time to draw - each work requires patience. As Olivia explains, " ... I select the highest quality artists pencils, which require a keen eye, a gentle hand and time ... This process becomes a mediation for the artist, layering each mark with delicate precision".

I'm sure you'll agree when you click on the button below to view her works you will fall in love with her delicate petals that unfold from a Chrysanthemum or the small silvereye bird balancing delicately on a fine branch.

May 2022 Country Style magazine out now!

GOST is in this month's Country Style (CS) magazine!

t's a fabulous day when you see your favourite magazine in the letter box knowing you are going to be in it! Best kept secret! Well I may have told my family, a girlfriend or two and why not! I've been a CS girl since my sister introduced me to them way back when I was 18 years old. I've saved many issues and still can't bear to throw one out! Anyway, you can go out now and purchase the magazine as it's available at newsagents or if you want to immerse yourself into the article head to the story now!

A big thanks to VisitCanberra working with Country Style to bring this story together. I was interviewed by Hannah James, the CS Deputy Editor a while ago and we chatted for 40 minutes about the beginnings of GOST, my love of Canberra and recommendations on where to stay, play and shop. It's a rare find to have someone listen to you and translate your story to unfold with sincerity and from the heart. Thanks Hannah.

Little Things Art Prize| I Judging again in 2022!

I'm thrilled to say I've been asked to return as a judge for the Little Things Art Prize (LTAP). I had the pleasure of being a judge back in 2019 and being a part of a special initiative that is close to my heart.

Founder LTAP Marnie Ross's " ... aim was to create a collective celebration of the 'little things' & direct our attention to gratitude, but it was also about creating opportunities for artists all ages and to have the exposure and experience of exhibiting in a boutique gallery Saint Cloche ... ".

She asked if I would support another solo show as a prize given the fabulous success we had with the ceramics winner Grace Brown in February this year. Of course! I said yes, straight away & am thrilled to work alongside Marnie, the judges (Jane Guthleben and Helen Earl) and Founder/Director of Saint Cloche Kitty Clarke.

So! Entries have opened and I highly suggest artists read the entry tips and terms and conditions to see if this is the art prize for them. Good luck!
