July l 2023
Meet the makers in July | New artworks | Guest judge | Vienna holiday | physically closed Aug & Sep

Meet the makers in July | 1 - 31 July 2023 | weekends only

Chat to a ceramicist, painter or textiles, print media, mixed media artist who will be gallery sitting
while I’m away overseas.

Their works will be on display and they can take you through the processes behind making their art.
It will be a fabulous experience for everyone.

The gallery has been curated for Winter and feels extra cozy with works ranging from woven wall textiles in warm reds/oranges through to postcard size birds in blues and greens. For those that love ceramics, we have cream and terracotta brooches, posy vessels glazed in rich tomato red, chocolate brown and green as well as small votive vessels rich in black and white textures.

Looking for a handbag with a difference? There is an elephant handbag for those that love pattern in classic black and white. Love pastel and architecture? Then our small paintings of a country church and around the rocks in Sydney might be a perfect match!

So, pop on in 11-4pm, Saturdays + Sundays from 1-31 July for a unique experience.

I’m a judge for The Corner Store Gallery!

Thanks to Madi Young, Director and owner of
The Corner Store Gallery in Orange, I’ve been invited alongside artist Larissa Blake and Madi to judge the Mini Series Art Prize. This is a wonderful opportunity for an artist to win a rent free space in a highly regarded regional gallery where all the works are curated by Madi. Visit the website to find out more and for those who wish to see the finalists works on display save the dates:
27 October to 5 November 2023.

New artworks have landed!

Just before I jumped on a plane to Vienna, new works landed in Canberra! It’s exciting curating the space where blue popped as a theme across glass, mixed media, paintings and print media. From there, I could add black and white and colors like eggplant and green. I love how our tiny space can look different each time.

Naomi Zouwer has painted anodised cups and I’m sure you’ll agree this will add some spark to your home! Alongside her works is Pia Larsen’s exquisite lettering which draw you in to the cool hues of cyan (blues). Marnie Ross has painted larger abstract works and with names like Burnt sienna lavender days we know you’ll be imaging a landscape far away. Greta Cooper has created a mixed media collage of a new series of Canberra birds. At postcard sizes they can be pinned to the all or you can frame at your own leisure. Kylie Walsh has created more of her popular Connected Series with new yarn. We highly recommend getting in before they go. Most artworks are one offs meaning you have something very unique for many years to come.

Post note | As this went to publication, two new paintings by Amanda Westley are winging their way to Canberra from Adelaide. Keep an eye on the shop in the coming week as I prepare her online product pages, thanks Anne.

Vienna | Working holiday in July

As some of you may have read in our June news, I’m currently in Vienna with Adam as he teaches Crime at the Scene as part of a Winter intensive for University students. I’m assisting as I have prior experience managing 100 PhD and MPhil students in the Social Sciences and it’s part of my philosophy to mentor students as an ANU Alumni.

We arrived a week early to manage jet lag and thankfully we did as we had many a 3.30am wake up calls. We met the students on Monday 3 July and it was great to hear their experiences with travelling and getting ready to learn new outcomes in the heart of Europe - Vienna. I’ve taken a lot of photos but selected a few here for everyone to enjoy - from large buildings to little artworks - Vienna is classic, art deco and contemporary in every way.
If you wish to follow my travels please go to my Instagram accounts: @annemastersceramics and @galleryofsmallthingscbr or Facebook. If you aren’t on social media that’s okay as I plan to post a story on GOST’s website. So check stories in @ 2 weeks time.
