Title: Mungo Series | The sky is cloudy over the lunette | Dusk falls and kisses the sand | Sunset on the ancient lakeshore | The lunette is aglow | A bright sun is high over the sands

A little bit more from Lee: In April 2021, my family spent some time at Lake Mungo in outback NSW. We explored the sand dunes and learned some of the history of this ancient and significant place. I first created collages of my memories there and then set about weaving from these. The Mungo lunette is changing all the time - weathered and being blown about by the elements – and I wanted that constant movement of the landscape to be reflected in what I wove. After coming off the loom, each piece has undergone a transformation, as I "frayed" the edges and removed many of the warp ends. I feel this unravelling more accurately captures the fragility of Mungo, and how the sands continuously change with rain and wind. The weft ends have also been left to trail below the tapestries, adding further to the looseness and impermanence of what I was trying to convey.
